LG Electronics unveiled its new 55 inch OLED TV in Monaco, which is scheduled to be shipped in the latter half of this year.
The 55 inch OLED TV (55EM9600)--the winner of the Cnet’s Best of Show Award and Presidential Award for Multimedia Technology Excellence-was introduced for the first time in Europe at the Showcase after having been unveiled at CES 2012 last January. LG has been committed to emanate its initial product concept of “Ultimate Display” to push it beyond the wild imagination and expectation of customers, or the limits of all the existing technologies of today to offer never seen before visual experiences. The product will be released in the second half of this year starting from major markets including Korea, Europe, and North America.
LG OLED TV applies WRGB pixel type OLED technology to express ultra sharp color images, offering differentiated values such as wide viewing angle with refiner technology, unlimited contrast ratio, no afterimages, and ultra slim and light body designs.
Without the back light unit, the TV is even thinner than a smart phone at 4mm thickness, weighing only 10kg with unconventional carbon fiber reinforced plastic used as exterior material, a material that is lighter than traditional aluminum. Also, LG’s proprietary 3D technology is widely expected to take the supremacy in the OLED TV segment with flicker-free light glasses.
Although LG had started off OLED TV production with 15 inch in 2009, it soon focused on large screen TVs with advanced technologies such as better picture qualities, wide viewing angles, low heat generation, and high power efficiency.
