The provincial government has designated the fifth day of every month as “Low Salt Day” when every household prepares meals with lowest possible amount of salt.

Seoul, Korea ¶ June 5, 2012 — The government of Gyeonggi Province will hold an event to promote healthy lifestyle for its residents. Named “No Salt Day,” the campaign is to open at the Lotteria Square in AK Department Store near the Suwon Train Station on June 5.

The campaigners on that day will promote health facts such as the suggested daily intake of salt is 5 grams and excessive salt intake will cause cardiovascular problems such as high blood pressure. To that end, the provincial government has designated the fifth day of every month as “Low Salt Day” when every household prepares meals with lowest possible amount of salt.

A health official with the provincial government said, “In order to help people familiarize with a habit of checking the food label for sodium content, we are planning an event using social networking tools by which we encourage the users to buy low-salt food items by giving out free gifts.”
