Seoul, Korea ¶ July 12, 2012 -- Hyundai Marine & Fire Insurance will begin Korea's first service on July 10 for its auto insurance customers to alert on flooded roads by using state-of-the-art sensor technology.
The insurer installed flood alert signs in low-lying areas in Seoul including Kangnam, Sadang, and Daechi subway stations, which saw severe flooding in last year's Monsoon season.
The system can detect precipitation through the radar sensor and send the data to the company's control center so that the information can be relayed to the company claims staff and disaster response teams, as well as the motorists.
Chung Sung-Hoon, president of Hyundai Marine & Fire's Traffic, Climate & Environment Research Institute, said, "Road flooding and resulting damages is easily prevented if motorists can be alerted in advance. We hope the latest service can contribute to protecting our customers' properties and lives."
