The company on July 26 set up an LTE base station connected to a buoy on the sea surface and the submarine 40 meters underwater.

Seoul, July 27 (Whowired) -- Just ahead of the summer vacation season, SK Telecom showcased its newest voice over LTE technology in a submarine for tourists at Seogwipo,JejuIsland. The company on July 26 set up an LTE base station connected to a buoy on the sea surface and the submarine 40 meters underwater.

Kwon Hyuk-Sang, SK Telecom’s network division head, said, “With more than 4-million LTE subscribers and the world’s first company in commercializing multi-carrier services, SK Telecom is an undisputed leader in LTE services. The latest experimental service in the submarine proves our confidence and commitment that we can provide high-quality service under any circumstances.”

In addition, SK Telecom has designated the summer vacation season from July 16 to August 15 as the special heavy traffic time. To respond to increased communications needs, the company installed 30 more mobile base stations while increasing the capacity of 994 LTE base stations in major resort areas.
