[Seoul = Whowired] November 02, 2011 -- The GM Korea Employee Foundation, a social welfare organization operated by GM Korea employees, held a ceremony today at GM Korea’s Bupyeong headquarters in Incheon to donate company uniforms to the underprivileged, including solitary seniors.

Among the 20 attendees at today’s ceremony were GM Korea Employee Foundation Chief Secretary General Suk-bum Joo, Peace 3000 Corporation Co-Leader Gwang-shik Han and Happy People Corporation Executive Director Chang-yong Lee.

Following its name change to GM Korea and the introduction of the Chevrolet brand in March, the company distributed newly designed uniforms to employees as part of its effort to promote change across the organization.

The GM Korea Employee Foundation held the Sharing Warmth Event from October 21-31 to encourage team members to donate their old uniforms. Around 2,000 clean uniforms are being distributed immediately and another 4,000 will be distributed after washing and mending. The 6,000 donated uniforms will be distributed in Busan, Changwon and Incheon through the Peace 3000 Corporation and the Happy People Corporation.

Suk-bum Joo said, “I’d like to thank the employees who participated in the Sharing Warmth Event. I hope the donated uniforms will make the winter a little warmer for those in need. The GM Korea Employee Foundation will continue to reach out to those less fortunate.”

Gwang-shik Han said, “The uniforms donated by GM Korea employees will be of great help to solitary seniors and others. The spirit of sharing that GM Korea inspired will give great strength to recipients.”

Since its establishment in 2005, the Employee Foundation has been carrying out charitable activities, providing support such as reimbursing medical expenses, offering scholarships, funding education for underprivileged gifted students and improving housing conditions. It has also been engaged in various social welfare projects, including donating vehicles, renovating welfare facilities, providing daily necessities and emergency relief, and organizing employee volunteer activities. In 2010, the GM Korea Employee Foundation distributed 250 donated laptop computers to social welfare facilities in Seoul and Incheon.

The GM Korea Employee Foundation was recognized for its work, receiving the Health & Welfare Minister’s Award for the second time on October 25. It was also honored in 2007.
