Seoul, KOREA ¶ Feb 21, 2012 (Whowired) -- ‘Jumbagi: Korea's Dinosaur 3D’ has broken the animation audience figure record in Korea by attracting 806,698 viewers nationwide as of Feb 13. The previous record was held by ‘Robot Taekwon V’ with 720,000 viewers. Jumbagi also brought 366,523 viewers in first week, breaking the previous record of 334,859 viewers held by ‘Leafie: A Hen into the Wild’.
‘Jumbagi: Korea’s Dinosaur 3D’ is also competing well with Hollywood and Korean blockbusters in the Korean box office thanks to good words of mouth from the viewers. Seoul and the SBA(Seoul Business Agency) saw animations as a new growth for culture industry, and invested in the movie; Seoul City and the SBA jointly run a fund of 97.4 billion won to promote Korea’s culture contents industry.
Jumbagi: Korea’s Dinosaur 3D was completely made of nation’s original workforce and skills from storytelling to CG characters and 3D technologies, and has been presold in 33 countries before the release in Korea. And its success is poised to spread to other local industries as story books based on the movie are already on the market with an impressive initial success, and other related products such as puzzles, toys, cards and board games are planned to release; The entertainment industry expects the movie would create a 100 billion won market. The Contents Business at the SBA(Seoul Business Agency) said “We will continue to support development of local animations like Jumbagi and help them to succeed locally and globally.”
