Korea’s Hanhwa Group announced on Apr 14 that it struck a 5 year official sponsorship contract with San Francisco Giants. Major League Baseball is one of the four pillars of America’s pro sports, attracting over 70 million spectators annually, and San Francisco Giants with a 130 years history has won 6 World Series so far.
Under the sponsorship contract, Hanwha will conduct a variety of promotion activities at the AT&T, Giant’s home stadium, which include LED board advertising, online and offline banners, brand photo zone, sponsor day event, firework festival and etc. The Korean energy business powerhouse will also support solar panel facilities in the stadium to promote its eco-friendly images. With the deal with San Francisco Giants, Hanhwa expects to establish its stepping stone to make inroads into the solar power market in North America while building up its brand image of Hanwha Solar One among American sports fans.
Kim Hee-chul, President of Hanhwa Solar One, a solar energy business arm of the group, said “Hanhwa is delighted with this opportunity to strengthen our brand in North America through the sponsorship,” also adding “We also plan to create sports marketing synergy effects as well as to strengthen our global images through more sponsorships for prestigious football clubs in Europe.”
In 2011, Hanhwa Group held official sponsorship deals with three European football teams: Bolton Wanderers in English Premier League, Juventus in Italian Serie A and Hamburger SV in German Bundesliga, in an effort to promote Hanhwa brand in the solar power market in Europe .
