The province came up with the idea of visiting schools on Saturdays and vacations after schools started taking all Saturdays off beginning early this year. To this trial run, the response from the children and teachers has been enthusiastic.

Seoul, KOREA ¶ May 11, 2012 -- The “Design School on the Go” run by the government of Gyeonggi Province has received good reviews. The school, launched on April 17, trains students in 22 elementary schools within the province. The province came up with the idea of visiting schools on Saturdays and vacations after schools started taking all Saturdays off beginning early this year.

At the school, instructors tell students to wrap their fingers with the Scotch Tape and try touching things, write the names of their parents or friends with an eye bandage on, or open the cap of a water bottle with cream on their hands. After this unusual experience, the children are asked to draw pictures on how to improve the design to make it easy to use.

To this trial run, the response from the children and teachers has been enthusiastic. Park Jae-Kyu, the teacher at Nogok Elementary School in the City of Pocheon where the Design School on the Go visited on the Day for the People of Disabilities on April 20, said in a letter sent to the Gyeonggi Provincial government, “We thank you for giving us an opportunity to learn the importance of caring for the handicapped and how to make their lives more convenient through design.”
