SK Telecom demonstrated "Smart Learning" robot at the Mobile World Congress 2012 held in Barcelona, Spain and this robot was designed to be next-gen educational tools for our kids, and only functions thanks to a Bluetooth-connected Android handset which serves as both the brains of the operation and the interactive display, highlighting SK Telecom's dedicated efforts to be a leader in smart learning market.
Seoul, KOREA ¶ May 11, 2012 --The era of “smart” has come as smart devices like smartphone, tablet PC, smart TV have become commonplace tools. This smart evolution has also made a huge impact on education, revolutionizing its traditional learning process and resources.
Korea has led smart learning thanks to its world-class Internet network infrastructure and cutting-edge IT technologies. Educational companies and network operators in the country are working together to create contents and platforms for global smart learning markets.
One of the Korean leaders in the smart learning industry is SK Telecom. At the Mobile World Congress 2012, SK Telecom’s smart robots synced with its educational content were given high marks by several major media outlets such as Engadget and The Guardian. Riding on its accumulated know-how and technologies in smart learning, SK Telecom is building up its global leadership in the field, expanding its smart learning territories initially to Southeast Asia and the Middle East.
The largest operator by sales revenue and subscriber numbers in the country said on March 9 that it agreed with Telkom Indonesia to launch its smart English learning service “English Bean,” in Indonesia. English Bean is a whole-new concept ubiquitous English learning service for users to learn its English learning service on various platforms based on smart devices.
Since Indonesia has the second-largest Facebook population of 35 million, SK Telecom also localized and customized the service for Facebook users in the country such as including Facebook-based English learning games.
In addition, SK Telecom is currently in talks with a Taiwanese telecom company to launch English Bean in the country. SK Telecom aims to launch English Bean in Taiwan as early as the latter part of this year.
Furthermore, SK Telecom, in partnership with local major educational content providers like Chungdam Learning, launched “T Smart Learning” in its native country. T Smart Learning is a tablet-based smart education platform providing customized service for each learner and a two-way communication system with online mentoring and communities.
Park Chol-Soon, the senior vice president and the head of IPE Business Office at SK Telecom, said, “SK Telecom will make constant efforts to introduce to the global market high-quality, well-made smart learning services like English Bean, which represents a new concept of English education service by enabling users to enjoy learning anytime, anywhere.”
