Korea’s corporations have also contributed their fair share to the world’s first marine expo. There are seven official local large companies which set up their own pavilions at the expo: Hyundai Motor, Samsung, POSCO, SK Telecom, GS Caltex, and Lotte. There is also the DSME Marine Robot Pavilion sponsored by Daewoo Shipping & Marine Engineering.


Seoul, KOREA ¶ May 15, 2012 --  After four years of preparation and US$10-billion investment, the Yeosu Expo finally started its 93 day journey under the theme of “The Living Ocean and Coast” on May 12. In the expo held in the marine city in southern Korea, 104 nations and 10 international organizations will participate to stage their exhibitions.

First, Hyundai Motor Group, the main sponsor of the expo, has established the largest pavilion at the expo with a size of 1,400 square meters. At the lobby, the company’s flagship vehicles showcased alongside with hyper-surface images of its futuristic automobile visions. The pavilion focuses on demonstrating the company’s five core values of customer, challenge, collaboration, people, and globalization.

 

Yeosu Expo 2012 - 005.jpg Samsung has created an ark-shaped pavilion to allow the visitors to have a journey for the saving the endangered planet. Inside the pavilion is a great stage where multimedia visual display performances enchant viewers.

 

POSCO, Korea’s steel powerhouse, has set up an all-white three-story pavilion with seemingly no entrance doors at the front, signifying the company’s philosophy of “open-minded communication.” POSCO prepared five exhibition zones inside to demonstrate its commitment to renewable energies and marine resources.

 

SK Telecom demonstrates the future of ICT such as smart health and smart car in its pavilion with the theme of “WE-Cloud” representing a world of happiness through open technology shared by everyone.

 

LG has prepared a “green” pavilion with a size of 1,960 square meters. It exhibits its eco-friendly products such as super solar batteries, portable washing machines. The pavilion also showcases the world’s first moving multimedia art piece made up of 54 different 47-inch display panels in its center.

 

GS Caltex, one of the biggest energy companies in the country has built the “Energy Field” pavilion which was designed by Atelier Brückner with the theme of “Sustainable Movements.” Surrounded by three hundred and eighty “Blades,” the 18 meter-tall energy architecture, it signifies its commitment to developing sustainable energy resources, and enhancing the nation’s energy independency.
