Seoul, KOREA ¶ Apr 6, 2012 (Whowired) – CJ Korea Express, the largest package delivery company in Korea, announced that it would begin adding power-assisted tricycles to its delivery fleet. The company said the electric tricycles can reduce greenhouse gas emissions while creating more jobs.
The tricycle that CJ Korea Express will use is capable of running up to 40 kilometers or 6 hours in one recharge. It comes equipped with the luggage rack and electric motor that can be turned on when running with heavy load or on an uphill.
The company plans to hire housewives and senior citizens who will operate the electric bikes in neighborhoods. Starting next month, it will experiment with 10 such bikes in Busan and soon expand the program to other metropolitan areas such as Seoul, Incheon and Daegu.
