Seoul, Korea ¶ July 02, 2012 -- LG U+ will start allowing its members of all types of rate plan to use the mobile VoIP phone service for free up to a certain limit. The mobile phone service provider reported on June 29 its new plan to the Korea Communications Commission. Under the terms of the plan, all LG U+ subscribers will be able to enjoy the free-of-charge service beginning July 1.
The company had not allowed mobile VoIP phone calls on its network, but announced its changed policy in early June in response to mounting user complaints. Any smartphone service user on the LG U+ network can take advantage of the mobile VoIP service with the download of any of the phone applications such as VoiceTalk (by KakaoTalk), MyPeople (Daum), and Line (NHN).
But the volume of free mobile VoIP phone calls the LG U+ service subscriber can make without charge depends on the subscriber’s rate plan. For example, LTE plan subscribers are allowed to use the amount of data up to 1.5 gigabytes (for LTE120 plan members) from 30 megabytes (LTE34 members). For those 3G smartphone subscribers, the maximum data volume permitted to them is from 30 to 300 megabytes for Smart 34/44/54/64 rate plans while for Smart 74/94 plan users it is up to 1 gigabyte.
The length of mobile VoIP call time allowed for 30-megabyte data users is approximately 75 minutes while those for 100-megabyte and 1.5-gigabyte members are 250 minutes and 3,840 minutes (64 hours), respectively.
