Seoul, KOREA ¶ Mar 2, 2012 (Whowired) -- SK Broadband revealed on February 29 that it has signed an agreement with Chonbuk National University to improve the university’s communications environment jointly with its group affiliate SK Telecom. According to the terms of the agreement, SK Broadband will install the latest versions of IP PBX and VoIP systems in the university’s Chonju and Iksan campuses. In addition, the company will set up a dedicated Internet cable between the two campuses for a unified communications service.
Once the new equipment is in place, which is expected before the fall semester in September, the university administrators will be able to carry out tasks without being tied to their desktop computers while the students can browse the library catalog and borrow books through their smartphones.
Kim Seon-Hee, the head of the university’s planning department, said, “We expect our students’ level of satisfaction with their campus life will improve so much with the new services allowing them to connect to the free Internet on their smartphones. I hope this is the model case for other universities to emulate.”
President of SK Broadband Park In-Shik said, “We are glad to work with SK Telecom to build a smart campus environment at Chonbuk National University. We will keep working hard to find occasions for industry-academy collaboration.”
