
[SEOUL = WhoWired] June 30, 2011 – At the Lotte Hotel in Seoul, SK Telecom held an ambitious ceremony to declare the launch of the first commercial LTE service in South Korea, opening the 4G era in full swing, SK Telecom officially starts its LTE service from July 1.
In April, SK Telecom showcased a 4G LTE network at its Bundang Building’s LTE Test-bed to compare the speeds of 4G LTE with 3G WCDMA and to demonstrate LTE-based 3D video streaming and high definition video content download/ streaming.
LTE is a next-generation network that ensures an ultra high-speed data service by providing maximum downlink speed of 75Mbps, five times faster than that of 3G WCDMA network (HSUPA). LTE also has the maximum downlink speed of 37.5Mbps, seven times faster than that of 3G WCDMA, and even almost two times faster than Wibro.
