Seoul, KOREA ¶ Jan 03, 2012 (Whowired) -- SK Telecom, Korea’s largest mobile communications service provider, will deploy its “advanced-SCAN” technology that would reduce signal interference between base transceiver stations and thereby improve call quality substantially. Starting January 2, the company will run a limited test deployment in the LTE (long-term evolution) network in Budang, south of Seoul, the first of such technology in the world.

Once the company believes that the test run is successful, it plans to widen the advanced-SCAN network area to many other population centers. Given that advanced-SCAN can link a total of 144 base stations, it is a cost-effective technology in a densely populated country like Korea.

Kwon Hyuk-Sang, the head of SK Telecom’s network division, said, “The LTE service that we now provide is already fastest and most stable of all other competition. With the introduction of advanced-SCAN technology, we will be able to serve our customers even better with most dense coverage. We will keep maintaining our leadership through many different technologies such as PETA solution.”
