Asiana declared the last week of April as “Green Week” to protect ecosystem in Busan, Gwangju, and Yeosu areas shown on the map of Asiana flight routes.
Starting from Gwangju Airport on the 30th, the campaign took place in the wetlands to clean the area and to uproot the plants with foreign origins. The campaign will continue in Incheon and Gimpo Airports on May 4th and then in 10 other airports and Gangseo Wetlands Eco Park.
Kim Deok-young, Managing Director at Asiana, said environment management is part of Asiana’s seven initiatives to become “Beautiful Corporation.” He added this campaign has started off to offset the negative incidents like bird strike and excessive noise during flights by protecting the wetlands dubbed as “the heart of the ecosystem.”
On the other hand, Asiana has introduced the global Carbon Offset Program in 2008 for the first time in the industry to offset the costs incurred by greenhouse gas emission during executive business travels. Asiana has taken the leading role as environmentally friendly company in the airline industry, running Eco Counter for those travelling without airport luggage at Incheon and Gimpo Airports since last year.
