How to Drive Comfortably

Whether you’re taking a quick 10-minute car journey down the road or you’ve got a long commute ahead, you’ll want to be comfortable while you’re in the car.

Driving in a suboptimal position can lead to poor posture, and muscle and joint stiffness. Over the years, this can lead to chronic aches and pains.

There are lots of things that you can do to maximize your comfort while driving. Keep reading to learn our top tips on how to drive comfortably.

Clean your air filters regularly

The air filters in your car can quickly accumulate dirt, dust, and pollen as you’re driving. Eventually, the filters will start pumping this dirt and dust into your vehicle.

If the filters are blocked, you might notice an unpleasant odor coming from the vents to the fans might start to make loud noises. To avoid any nasty smells as you’re driving, take the time to clean your car’s air filters regularly using a damp cloth.

Adjust your seat correctly

One of the most obvious ways to increase your comfort while driving is to adjust your seat accordingly. Your seat should be far back enough for you to comfortably rest them down on the floor mat, while also allowing you to press the foot pedals properly.

Adjust the angle of your seat so that you can clearly see ahead of you. Your lower back and neck should be well-supported to avoid car injuries and muscle stiffness.

If after adjusting your seat, you still don’t feel fully supported, add a cushion to your seat. This will provide extra support for your lower back, reducing the risk of soreness, spinal arthritis, and herniated disks.

Keep your doors locked while you’re driving

Comfortable driving isn’t just about the position of your feet or the padding on your seats. It also involves feeling safe and secure in your car.

While your car is moving, the risk of a stranger entering your vehicle is very low. However, when you roll up to a traffic light or pull over to take a short rest, it’s easy for somebody to jump into your car if your doors aren’t locked.

Always remember to lock your car doors as soon as you get into the vehicle. Get yourself a remote car starter so that you can lock and unlock your vehicle from a distance.

Get a steering wheel cover

It’s not the nicest feeling to grip a freezing cold steering wheel in the middle of winter or a boiling hot leather wheel during the hot summer months. To avoid discomfort in extreme weather, get yourself a steering wheel cover.

You can buy a standard leather or pleather option, or go for a fluffy, sparkly pink cover if you wish. It will make your car journeys more comfortable while also adding a touch of class and style to your car.
