On Tuesday evening, Joe Gibbs Racings officially announced that John Hunter Nemecheck will drive their No.18 Toyota GR Supra in three upcoming NASCAR Xfinity Series races this season. Will the NASCAR odds be in his favor?

Last year, in 2021, Nemechek had a similar contract with Joe Gibbs Racing. He raced three times in the NASCAR Xfinity Series and won the race at the Texas Motor Speedway. Nemechek hopes to repeat and improve upon his previous performance from last year.

This season, Nemechek will race three times for the Joe Gibbs Racings team in the NASCAR Xfinity Series. He has 58 career starts in the Xfinity Series. His JGR season debut is scheduled for April 2 at Richmond Raceway, followed by a race at Dover Motor Speedway on April 30. His third and final race will take place at the Texas Motor Speedway, where he will defend his 2021 win, on September 24.

“I am really excited to have this opportunity to race again in JGR’s Xfinity Series program after the success we had last season,” Nemechek said, “We were able to pick up a win in just three starts and hopefully we can add to that success this season. I am also looking forward to working with crew chief Jason Ratcliff, who has found victory lane with a lot of different drivers over the years. I really appreciate the support of my long-term partners Safeway, ACME, and ROMCO for coming on board to support me and, of course, Toyota.”

Who is John Hunter Nemecheck?

At 24 years old, Nemechek is quite a seasoned and decorated veteran. The Mooresville, North Carolina native has started over 200 times across NASCAR’s top three national series. He has won numerous titles; he earned a 2021 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series regular-season title, an Allison Legacy Series championship, two Xfinity Series wins, and 11 career Truck Series wins.

“John Hunter was impressive in his starts with us last year and we’re excited to have him back this season to work with Jason [Ratcliff] and our 18 team for a few races,” said Steve de Souza, Executive Vice President of Xfinity Series and Development for Joe Gibbs Racing. “He really has made the most of every opportunity and we expect he will run up front again in these races.”

Despite a stellar 2021 season, Nemechek’s 2022 season is off to a rough start, as he finished his most recent Truck Series races in Daytona in 24th and 25th places. In another stroke of misfortune, Nemechek was also involved in wrecks in both races. In 2021, Nemechek had five wins and one regular-season championship, and he finished third in points.

Drew Dollar, Trevor Bayne, and Ryan Truex are among other impressive drivers of Joe Gibbs Racing’s No. 18 Toyota for this season. Dollar will be driving the superspeedways schedule, Bayne has been scheduled for eight races, and Truex will drive in four races in the Xfinity Series. Additional drivers are expected to be added at a later date.
